President Bola Tinubu reached Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. local time.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga revealed this in a statement on Saturday night.
He said that when Tinubu arrived at Hewanorra International Airport, he received full military honors and was welcomed by the Governor-General of Saint Lucia, His Excellency Errol Melchiades Charles, along with Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre.
Onanuga mentioned that this visit is the initial stage of his journey to two countries in the Caribbean and South America.
On Sunday, Tinubu will commence the state visit by making courtesy calls to both the Governor-General and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
The President is scheduled to speak at a special joint session of Saint Lucia's Senate and House of Assembly on Monday.
The event is scheduled to occur at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, located in Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.
The event will be attended by the Heads of Government from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), high-ranking officials from the Saint Lucian government, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from Saint Lucia's Nigerian community, and Dr. Didacus Jules, Director-General of OECS.
President Tinubu is set to host a high-level working luncheon with the Heads of Government from the OECS following their joint session at the Saint Lucian Parliament.
The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation between Nigeria and the OECS, with an emphasis on economic partnerships and cultural unity to foster shared prosperity.
As per the President's schedule, he plans to visit Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to enhance educational connections and encourage academic exchange.
In part, the statement reads: "President Tinubu's visit highlights Nigeria's dedication to enhancing diplomatic and economic ties with Caribbean countries, especially within the framework of the African Union’s Sixth Region, which acknowledges the African diaspora as an essential partner in Africa's development."
Following his engagements in Saint Lucia, the President will travel to Brazil to attend the 2025 BRICS Summit, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6th to 7th.
President Tinubu will attend the BRICS summit following an invitation from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, due to Nigeria's designation as a 'partner country'—a membership status that falls short of full membership.
