In a development that has sparked political conversation and public scrutiny, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was notably absent at the commissioning of major infrastructure projects in Lagos — despite being physically present in the state — leaving Godswill Akpabio to represent him at the high-profile event.

The projects, executed under the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, include critical developments such as the Ojora–Opebi link bridge, the Lagos Geographic Information Service building, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex — all aimed at improving mobility, governance efficiency, and public service delivery.

According to the presidency, the decision was deliberate. Presidential aide Sunday Dare revealed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu chose to prioritize pressing national security matters over ceremonial duties, stating that the President has been receiving constant intelligence briefings amid ongoing security concerns across the country. 

This explanation, while official, raises deeper questions.

Insiders point to recent unrest and security developments — including violent incidents in parts of the country — as factors demanding the President’s full attention. The message from the presidency is clear: governance, especially security, takes precedence over optics.

Godswill Akpabio, standing in for the President, carried out the commissioning alongside top political figures, reinforcing continuity in government operations. But the absence of the Commander-in-Chief at a major infrastructure unveiling in his political stronghold has inevitably fueled speculation and political interpretation.
