Ayra Starr Opens Up on Loneliness After Moving to New York

Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has shared her emotional experience weeks after relocating from Lagos to New York, following her management deal with Roc Nation.

In a personal write-up on her Substack page titled “I’m not scared, I promise,” the singer spoke honestly about feeling lonely and struggling with the cold weather in the city. She described her apartment as almost empty and said New York feels like a “walk-in freezer.”

Ayra Starr revealed that there are moments she regrets moving, especially when the cold affects her mood and motivation. She said the weather sometimes makes her question her decision to relocate.

The singer added that while others are enjoying Detty December celebrations in Nigeria, she is far away, dealing with isolation and adjusting to a new life because she chose to take a bold risk.

According to the “Rush” crooner, she is now in her “nobody gets me era”, stressing that she no longer feels pressured to prove herself to anyone.
