Thousands of aggrieved N-Power beneficiaries under the umbrella of the National Association of N-Power Beneficiaries (NANB), have issued a 30-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government over nonpayment of their stipends and entitlements for one year.
The aggrieved N-Power beneficiaries threãtened to embark on nationwide prõtest and resumption of their court proceedings if the government fails to meet their demands.
They issued the ultimatum through a notice dated September 2, 2025 and addressed to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Põverty Alleviation.
“We write to formally notify you of our collective decision regarding the lingering non-payment of our stipends,” the letter read.
“In July, 2025, following the intervention of the Deputy Senate President, our Association In good faith resolved to suspend ongoing legal proceedings against the Federal Government, with the hope that the relevant ministries would take swift and meaningful action towards the settlement of our entitlements.
“Unfortunately, two months have now passed without significant progress or any substantial communication from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.”
Newsmen reported in July 2025 that the aggríeved N-Power beneficiaries drãgged the Nigerian government to the National Industrial Court in Abuja over the government’s failure to pay them their stipends and entitlements for one year.
The suit, filed through their legal team led by Barrister A. A. Hikima, listed the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; the Attorney-General of the Federation; the Accountant-General of the Federation, and Mr. Akindele Egbuwalo (National Programme Manager of the N-Power, sued on behalf of N-Power programme), as first to fourth defendants.
In the letter on Tuesday, the N-Power beneficiaries lamented, “This continued silence and inaction have left thousands of beneficiaries across the country in severe hãrdship.
“Consequently, after due consultations with our legal representatives, we have resolved to issue this letter as a 30-day notice beginning from September 1, 2025.”
They wãrned, “If payment is not initiated within the month of September, the National Association of N-Power Beneficiaries will be left with no option but to stage a massive nationwide peaceful protest throughout the month of October, 2025 and immediately resume all suspended court cases against the Federal Government on 2nd October, 2025.”
It was reported in November 2024 that human rights lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, petitioned the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, over the nonpayment of the N-Power beneficiaries’ one-year stipends.
The beneficiaries lamented that they were not paid their stipends between October 2022 and September 2023.
They noted that though the programme had been suspended by the Nigerian government, they were engaged and their services were utilised before the suspension of the programme.
The beneficiaries noted that they registered for the N-Power programme and were deployed to their places of primary assignment for a period of 12 months, from October 2022 to September 2023.
