Peter Obi, a 2027 presidential hopeful and former candidate of the Labour Party in Nigeria's 2023 general election, has declared that if he is elected president, the northern region of Nigeria will celebrate his leadership.
Obi, a prominent member of the recently established opposition coalition affiliated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made this statement during his appearance as a guest on Channels Television's Sunday Politics program.
He stated that the northern region of Nigeria, consisting of 19 states with extensive arable land and considerable voter strength, possesses the greatest untapped potential in the country. However, he pointed out that these strengths have been consistently undermined by ongoing insecurity issues.
Obi mentioned, "We have previously voted based on incompetence, tribal affiliations, and religious lines; it's time we vote for competence."
"I want to earn their trust. The greatest asset of our country lies in the north, where there are vast uncultivated lands. I am committed to addressing and eliminating the criminal activities we currently face in that region."
"If I become president, the North will recognize my achievements. I understand the issues at hand."
