WASHINGTON, USA – President Donald Trump has announced plans for up to $200 billion in South Korean investment in major U.S. energy and infrastructure projects.
The investment package includes a 6-gigawatt gas-fired power generation facility in Texas, plans for eight large-scale nuclear power plants, and approximately $54 billion for the long-planned Alaska LNG project, according to U.S. and South Korean officials.
The Alaska LNG project would involve an 807-mile pipeline transporting natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope to an export terminal on the state’s southern coast, with the gas intended for Asian markets.
The projects form part of a broader $350 billion U.S. investment commitment by South Korea, linked to a bilateral trade agreement. Of that amount, $150 billion is designated for shipbuilding and $200 billion for strategic investments.
South Korean officials have previously said the Texas power project was the first project selected under the $200 billion strategic investment programme, while discussions over the nuclear plants and Alaska LNG project have continued.
