The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has reiterated its dedication to creating an enabling environment that promotes quality education, transformation, innovation, science, technology, and academic excellence. The ministry pledged to continue supporting initiatives that equip students with the skills and competencies needed to thrive in a competitive global environment.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, at the grand finale of the Ondo State Digital Quiz Competition held in Akure on Thursday.
Organized by the ministry in partnership with Quickens Computer Limited, the annual competition drew participants from five zones across the state's three senatorial districts.
Prof. Ajibefun explained that the digital quiz was conceived to promote digital literacy, stimulate academic excellence, encourage healthy competition among schools, and prepare students for future challenges.
Expressing delight at the growing participation over the past four years, he described the trend as a reflection of the collective commitment to improving educational outcomes.
"The world is rapidly evolving into a digital society where knowledge, innovation, and technological skills have become indispensable tools for national development. As a government, we recognize that the future belongs to individuals who can effectively leverage technology to solve problems, create opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to society," Ajibefun stated.
He lauded Quickens Computer Limited, parents, and teachers for their support, while encouraging the student participants to embrace sportsmanship.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Akindele Ige—represented by Mrs. Olufunke Ademuyiwa—described the contest as a vital platform for nurturing critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and digital literacy.
Quoting Nelson Mandela, he noted, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." He added that through such initiatives, the state is successfully equipping young people with the values and tools required to succeed in a technology-driven world.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Quickens Computer Limited, Mr. Gideon Omoregha, thanked the ministry for the privilege of organizing the competition for the fourth consecutive year.
Mr. Omoregha disclosed that alumni of previous editions have gone on to record exceptional performances in both the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). He expressed gratitude for the government's unwavering partnership and pledged his organization's continued support.
