ONITSHA, Nigeria – The Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of a clergyman, Pastor Harrison Charles, founder of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, over allegations that he took numerous married women from their husbands and engaged in controversial practices involving members of his congregation.
The arrest follows a viral video in which several individuals accused the pastor of encouraging wife-swapping among church members and taking some members’ wives as his own.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Media, Dr. Ejimofor Opara, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the state-backed security outfit, Agunechemba, and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
According to Opara, a joint investigation involving the Anambra State Government and the Anambra State Police Command is currently underway to determine the validity of the allegations.
“Pastor Harrison Charles, owner of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, was arrested by operatives of Agunechemba following a viral video containing several allegations against him,” Opara stated.
He added that during the arrest, security operatives reportedly discovered eleven babies at the pastor’s residence.
“During his arrest, about eleven babies were found in his home. He claims to be the father of these eleven babies, stating they are from eleven of his wives.
“He also claims he does not know the number of wives he has married or the total number of children he has,” Opara said.
The state government noted that the allegations remain under investigation and urged members of the public with relevant information to assist authorities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, called on individuals with additional details regarding the pastor’s activities to come forward and cooperate with investigators.
The arrest comes amid an ongoing crackdown by the Anambra State Government on individuals accused of operating fraudulent religious centres and engaging in practices considered harmful to public welfare.
