Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, Lagos, of negligence and attempting to frustrate investigations into the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu, who passed away on January 7, 2026.
In a letter published on Instagram, Adichie alleged that the hospital’s Medical Director initially admitted errors in her son’s treatment and accepted responsibility, including claims that an anesthesiologist administered “too much propofol.”
She further accused the hospital of failing to provide complete medical records, disputing the cause of death listed on her son’s death certificate, and taking steps to delay a coroner’s inquest aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding his death.
Adichie said the inquest is “simply a search for the truth” and expressed concern over what she described as efforts to obstruct the process.
Euracare Hospital had not issued an official response to the allegations as of the time of reporting.
