In a recent interview on News Central TV, founder of TAF Africa, Jake Epelle, spoke about political loyalty, leadership, and the ongoing tensions within the political structure of Rivers State.
During the discussion, Epelle stated, “Peter Odili was gracious to Nyesom Wike and made him an SA, but Wike disappointed him.” He made the comment while reflecting on the political journey of Nyesom Wike and his relationship with former Rivers State governor Peter Odili.
Epelle explained that Odili played a major role in Wike’s early political career by giving him opportunities to serve in government. According to him, many people who once supported Wike politically are no longer on good terms with him due to disagreements that emerged over time.
He argued that the situation highlights the growing problem of political conflicts and power struggles within Nigeria’s democratic system. Epelle stressed that political relationships should be built on loyalty, mutual respect, and service to the people rather than personal ambition or control.
He further defended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting that the governor had faced enormous political pressure since assuming office. According to Epelle, governance in Rivers State has been negatively affected by prolonged political battles and attempts to dominate the state’s political structure.
Epelle concluded by warning that godfatherism remains a serious threat to democracy in Nigeria, adding that the people must continue to defend their right to freely choose leaders without intimidation or political imposition.
