On his part, former Lagos State Governor and the leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu, commended Amaechi for being a ‘progressive’. He said; “We did not come here to campaign. We are here to see, to seek and to invite. I know Port Harcourt. I know Rivers State and I know Rotimi Amaechi. He has performed extremely well and we know this country cannot develop on the axis of intimidation, harassment, and lies. We know this man is focused. A man who stands to be cheated is not a man, he is a pig. I invite all of you to please ask Governor Amaechi to lead you to APC. We will join hands to move this country forward. The progressives have come….”
Preamble:
It unsettles me each time I read commentaries deliberately crafted to misrepresent the personality of Rt. Hon. Barr. Chibuike Rotimi, probably to taint his reputation and ridicule his public image, in a bid to score cheap political points. Those who indulge in these frivolous voyages, oftentimes channel their focus on his exit from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which appears to them a catchment area too susceptible to manipulation. So, they perch on it, distort the facts to suit their objectives and dish out to the reading public.
In my capacity as a fellow who has followed Amaechi’s politics for over a decade, It is incumbent on me to present the true position of things as regards Amaechi’s exit from the PDP, the forces that led him out of the party and his alliance with notable political figures to form the APC as an alternative alignment route then.
