Renowned Islamic scholar, Ahmad Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi, has strongly denied allegations linking him to comments perceived as supporting or justifying banditry in Nigeria, describing such claims as false, manipulated, and malicious.
The Kaduna-based cleric, who has repeatedly been at the centre of national conversations on insecurity and negotiations with armed groups in Northern Nigeria, said some individuals and online platforms had deliberately twisted his public comments for ethnic, sectional, and sensational purposes.
In a statement personally signed and shared his verified social media handle on Saturday, Sheikh Gumi expressed concern over what he described as persistent misrepresentation of his views in media interviews, public lectures, and discussions surrounding the country’s worsening security situation.
According to him, certain ethnic-interest groups, prejudiced individuals, and internet content creators have continued to circulate misleading materials and provocative headlines aimed at attracting public attention and online traffic, without regard for the pain of victims affected by insecurity.
