The Nigerian Army has issued a statement following the tragic death of a corps member hit by stray bullet.
According to a statement on 26th April 2026, AAD Army PRO HQ Guards Brigade, Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola said it regretted the tragic loss of NYSC member Mr. Abdulsamad Jamiu during a security incident on 25 April 2026 in Dei-Dei, Abuja.
It explained that troops on night patrol responded to an armed robbery distress call and came under fire from fleeing robbers, and Mr. Jamiu was caught in the crossfire and later succumbed to his injuries.
The Brigade extended its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and the NYSC, adding that it had begun a thorough investigation and would ensure transparency. It stated that the remains had been handed over to civil authorities and deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.
It went further to reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives in the FCT and said it would review operational procedures to enhance civilian safety. It urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
