Brigadier General Lawal Bature Mohammed (rtd), former Commander of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG), has died following complications from injuries sustained during a bandits’ ambush last year.
Popularly known as Dan Gusau, the late general had suffered gunshot wounds when armed bandits attacked him during an operation in Zamfara State. He was subsequently flown to Egypt for advanced medical treatment.
While he was recuperating, former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Shehu Daligent, was appointed as the new commander of the Community Protection Guards.
In a related development, Governor Dauda Lawal had recently honoured families of fallen CPG personnel, decorating 20 operatives who distinguished themselves in the line of duty and reaffirming government support for their families.
The funeral prayer for the late Brigadier General was held in the Sabon Gari area of Gusau, where he was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
His death marks another painful loss in the ongoing fight against banditry in North-West Nigeria, highlighting the sacrifices made by security personnel and community-based forces in efforts to restore peace and stability.
