According to a report by Daily Trust, on Saturday March 21, 2026, a prominent Islamic scholar from Sokoto, Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu only if his government has delivered tangible results.
Speaking on the need for accountability, Professor Ibrahim said citizens should evaluate the administration based on concrete improvements in areas that affect daily life and highlighted education, healthcare, agriculture, business, the economy, and electricity as key sectors where progress must be seen.
According to him, political support should not be given blindly or based on loyalty alone and stated that anyone promoting the president should clearly state what Tinubu has done for Nigerians, campaign messages, he said, should focus on real achievements, not just promises or past rhetoric.
The cleric warned that if the government has failed to produce meaningful outcomes, citizens should have the freedom to consider other candidates and suggested that exploring alternative leadership might bring relief to people who feel neglected or frustrated by current policies.
He stressed that governance should be measured by results that improve people’s lives, citizens, he said, have the right to expect that their leaders provide better education, stronger healthcare systems, reliable electricity, and support for agriculture and business growth.
He added that public discourse and political campaigns should be based on accountability and performance, leaders who have delivered visible benefits should be recognized, while those who have not should face constructive criticism and potential replacement through democratic processes.
“Whosoever will campaign for Tinubu should tell us what he did for us. But if there is nothing we should be allowed to try other candidates, maybe we can get relief,” he added.
