According to a report by The Sun News, on Thursday, March 27, 2026, the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr Samuel Kanu Uche, has urged Nigerians to focus less on age, ethnicity, or religious affiliation when considering candidates for the 2027 presidential election and instead prioritise competence, capacity, and a genuine commitment to delivering good governance.
He made this known while addressing the emergence of younger presidential hopefuls such as Adewole Adebayo, Kingsley Moghalu, and Omoyele Sowore, among others.
Speaking during the interview, Uche avoided endorsing any individual candidate, emphasising that leadership should not be reduced to generational divides.
According to him, both older and younger aspirants bring valuable qualities to the table.
While the elderly often possess experience and wisdom, younger individuals typically offer energy and innovation.
He stressed that what truly matters is a leader’s love for the nation and a sincere determination to foster peace, prosperity, and progress.
Nigerians should support anyone, regardless of region or background, who demonstrates the ability to lead effectively and selflessly, guided by integrity and moral values.
On the role of the church in governance, Uche challenged the notion that religious institutions are detached from politics.
Commenting on global tensions, particularly the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Uche dismissed claims that the crisis is religious in nature. Instead, he described it as a struggle for power and dominance among nations.
He warned that war brings widespread economic and social consequences, affecting even countries far removed from the conflict.
He urged all parties involved to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution, emphasising that war benefits no one and only leads to destruction.
Uche reiterated that both national and global peace depend on responsible leadership, moral discipline, and a genuine desire for the common good.
