A group of terrorists have reportedly attacked travellers along the Kabba–Obajana road, leaving several passengers injured and at least three people feared dead in a separate vehicle caught in the same assault.
One of the passengers, identified on X as Móráyọ̀ (@MORADUNNI), narrated the terrifying experience, saying the bus she was travelling in from Jos to Lagos came under attack around midnight.
In a post seen by SaharaReporters, she said the passengers initially did not realise what was happening until gunshots began coming from both sides of the road.
“Last night on Kabba–Obajana road on my way back to Lagos, our bus was attacked by bandits,” she wrote.
“At first we didn’t realise what was happening until gunshots started coming from both sides of the road. They targeted the driver, shot at the bus, broke the side mirror, and even hit the tyres.”
She explained that panic broke out inside the vehicle as passengers laid on the floor praying while the attack continued.
“Everyone laid down praying while a man beside me was shot in the leg,” she added.
According to her, the driver managed to escape the ambush by continuing to drive despite the gunfire.
“Thankfully, the driver kept going and managed to get us past them,” she said.
The passengers later stopped at a nearby village where residents reportedly assisted the injured passenger while the group waited for a replacement tyre.
“We stopped at a nearby village where the locals, who stay awake at night because of these attacks, helped the injured passenger while we waited for a replacement tyre,” she explained.
However, she said another bus travelling behind theirs was not as fortunate.
“Sadly, another bus behind us was hit harder. Several people were injured and three were killed. It was a terrifying bitter experience,” she wrote.
The passenger lamented the worsening insecurity in the country, noting that the attack occurred around midnight while she was travelling back to Lagos from Jos.
“The security of this country is getting worse everyday. We were attacked on my way back from Jos to Lagos at exactly 12AM,” she added.
She also shared videos and pictures showing the aftermath of the attack, including injured passengers receiving help at the village where the bus stopped.
The Kabba–Obajana road, which connects parts of Kogi State to major routes linking northern and southern Nigeria, has been repeatedly flagged by travellers as a dangerous corridor due to frequent bandit attacks and kidnappings.
Security agencies are yet to officially comment on the reported attack as of the time of filing this report.
