In a recent statement via his official X account, Demola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticized Federal Minister David Umahi over his handling of land issues for the proposed coastal highway.
"This is terrible behaviour from a Federal Minister and shows the typical arrogant feudalist mindset prevalent in the APC ruling class.
David Umahi is a disgrace to public leadership and it is an indictment of the Bola Tinubu who appointed him," he wrote.
In his post, Olarewaju said Umahi’s behaviour reflects a typical arrogant feudalist mindset that is common among leaders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and described the minister’s actions as unacceptable for someone holding public office.
He added that Umahi has shown disrespect even to traditional authorities, including the Oba of Lagos, by failing to provide clear answers about land acquisition for the highway project, according to Olarewaju, this illustrates a lack of accountability in the current administration.
Olarewaju argued that Umahi’s conduct is a disgrace to public leadership, he said such behaviour undermines trust in government and sets a poor example for other officials.
He said the situation is an indictment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed Umahi to his ministerial position, according to him, the appointment reflects poorly on the President’s judgment and oversight of his team.
Olarewaju said the episode demonstrates a broader problem within the APC ruling class, where ministers act with impunity and disregard both citizens’ concerns and institutional procedures.
He added that Nigerians deserve leaders who are accountable and respectful of traditional and civic authorities, according to him, public office should not be used to display arrogance or entitlement.
