Reports indicate that tension has risen in the terrorist camps affiliated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) following the neutralization of one of its leading commanders, Modu Kunduli, by the Nigerian Army.
A security expert, Zagazola Makama, mentioned in a report he shared on X on Wednesday that the troops from Operation HADIN KAI eliminated the terrorists after a failed assault on the Army Forward Operation Base in Mayanti village, within the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Zagazola noted that Kunduli, a significant ISWAP commander, had been planning attacks across Borno and Adamawa States for the past ten years, dating back to the time of Boko Haram's founder, Abubakar Shekau.
He joined ISWAP shortly after Shekau's demise in 2021.
Zagazola pointed out that Kunduli’s death is a considerable blow to ISWAP’s operational capabilities in the northeast, disrupting the group’s command structure and its ability to coordinate attacks in Borno and Adamawa states.
He also mentioned that the troops are actively patrolling the area to prevent any remaining insurgents from regrouping.
