Starlink Unveils new Satellites to deliver 5G Signal directly to Smartphones

Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, has announced plans for a new generation of mobile connectivity satellites designed to deliver full cellular coverage — including 5G — directly to smartphones.

According to a statement published on the company’s website, the upcoming Starlink Mobile V2 satellites will power what the firm describes as the highest-performing satellite-to-mobile network built so far.

The new system is expected to allow smartphones to connect directly to satellites, enabling users to access mobile networks from virtually anywhere, even in locations where traditional telecom infrastructure is unavailable.

Starlink said the technology will complement existing terrestrial mobile networks rather than replace them, helping telecom providers extend coverage to areas where building physical towers is difficult or too expensive.

If successfully deployed at scale, the satellite-to-phone connectivity could transform internet access in rural and underserved regions, including parts of Nigeria where network coverage gaps remain significant.

The development is part of Starlink’s broader mission to expand global connectivity and reduce digital inequality, particularly in remote communities that currently lack reliable internet access.
