In a post on the Ukraine President official X page on March 15, 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a stern warning regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing that Moscow has no genuine intention of ending its war against Ukraine.
Zelenskyy highlighted that Putin’s recent signals toward negotiations are a façade.
“He has never wanted to stop Russia's war against Ukraine. He has been afraid of President Trump and of pressure from the United States. That's why he has played this game, pretending he has wanted negotiations. I keep believing that America has to increase pressure on Putin,” Zelenskyy wrote, urging stronger international measures.
The Ukrainian leader cautioned that without intensified U.S. pressure, Putin would not engage in talks in good faith. According to Zelenskyy, Russia’s demands aim only to extract ultimatums from Ukraine, including territorial withdrawal, but “this will not satiate his appetite.”
Zelenskyy also linked Russia’s actions to recent developments in the Middle East, noting that easing sanctions and the ongoing situation in Iran have financially benefited Moscow.
“Our intelligence reports that due to all the sanctions imposed by the United States and the EU, and because of our deep strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, Russia faced a deficit of more than $100 billion in 2026 alone. Now we see they have made around $10 billion over two weeks of the war in the Middle East. This is really dangerous. It gives Putin more confidence that he can continue the war,” he added.
The President’s message underscores Ukraine’s call for sustained international pressure on Russia, emphasizing that only coordinated action can force Moscow toward credible negotiations and curb further aggression.
