ABUJA, Nigeria — Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a high-level security meeting with the nation’s top defence and intelligence officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid ongoing concerns over security challenges across parts of the country.
The closed-door meeting brought together the Minister of Defence, service chiefs, and heads of intelligence agencies to review the current security situation and assess ongoing military and intelligence operations nationwide.
Although details of the deliberations were not immediately made public, sources within the presidency said the meeting focused on strengthening coordination among the armed forces and intelligence community to address threats such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality.
Those present included the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff, alongside leaders of key intelligence agencies responsible for national security and strategic operations.
Security meetings of this nature are regularly convened by the President as part of efforts to evaluate field reports, review operational strategies, and issue directives aimed at improving national security.
The latest meeting comes at a time when security forces are intensifying operations in several regions of the country in response to persistent attacks by armed groups and other criminal elements.
Officials said further details may be communicated by the presidency following the conclusion of the consultations.
