The Acting Chairman of Owo Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Hammed, has declared zero tolerance for indiscipline among students, particularly in secondary schools across Owo Local Government Area.
The Acting Chairman made the declaration on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, while presiding over a high-level stakeholders' meeting convened at the Local Government Secretariat to address the persistent cases of indiscipline and violence among students.
The stakeholders comprised school principals, representatives of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), traditional institution religious body, Nigeria Police Force, and local government officials.
Participants at the meeting unanimously agreed on the urgent need to take firm measures against acts of violence, bullying, cult-related activities, and other forms of misconduct among students across schools in the local government.
Following exhaustive deliberations with the stakeholders, the Acting Chairman announced resolutions for immediate enforcement. These include the apprehension of students found on the streets during school hours (starting from 9:00 a.m.) and combing bushes identified as student hideouts. The enforcement is scheduled to take effect from Monday, March 16, 2026.
He also noted that the local government would make a public announcement of the resolutions through town crier, radio stations, and social media, and commence thorough sensitization for students across schools.
Hon. Hammed further expressed the commitment of the Council to initiate a bylaw that will provide long-term solutions and promote responsible conduct among students within the local government area.
The Acting Chairman also appealed to parents and guardians to play a more active role in the upbringing and monitoring of their children. He urged them to cooperate with school authorities and the local government in ensuring that students remain focused on their education and stay away from activities that could jeopardize their future.
Present at the meeting were all school principals led by the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Chairman, Mr. Abayomi Toluwalase Fasawe; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Olanrewaju Oladimeji; Chairman, House Committee on Security, Hon. Aladenusi Oladapo; Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Adekunle Olaniran; Special Adviser on Education, Hon. (Mrs.) Isaac Oyekorode; and the representative of the Olowo of Owo, Chief Amos Aladeseye.
Others included the Zonal Education Officer, Mr. Oluwafemi Adebayo; representatives from the Police Area Command, Owo; the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN); the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Community.
