The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced plans to deploy no fewer than 11,000 Agro-Rangers operatives across the country to strengthen the protection of farmers ahead of the 2026 farming season.
The move follows a wave of deadly attacks on farmers recorded in several parts of Nigeria in 2025, which raised serious concerns about food security and the safety of agricultural communities.
Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, the NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, revealed that the corps remains committed to safeguarding farmers, agro-allied investments, and agricultural infrastructure across the federation.
According to him, the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, has reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to deploy specially trained Agro-Rangers to vulnerable farming communities.
“The security of farmers is our topmost priority; this culminates in the training and retraining of Special Agro-Rangers operatives numbering over 11,000 across the federation,” Afolabi said.
He also urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent attacks, especially in areas that have been heavily affected by violence.
The NSCDC further noted that it maintains a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture aimed at protecting agricultural assets, resolving disputes, and improving security within farming communities.
Authorities say the deployment is expected to boost farmers’ confidence and help ensure a safer and more productive 2026 farming season.
