North Korea has launched several ballistic missiles toward the sea, escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula amid ongoing joint military exercises involving South Korea and the United States.
According to South Korea’s military, the missiles were fired from an area near Pyongyang and travelled hundreds of kilometres before landing in the sea.
The launches reportedly came shortly after North Korea issued warnings over the joint military drills being conducted by South Korea and the United States, which Pyongyang has repeatedly criticized.
In response, Seoul’s presidential office, the Blue House, strongly condemned the missile launches, describing them as a provocation that violates resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Authorities in South Korea have urged Pyongyang to immediately halt such actions, warning that continued missile tests could further destabilize the region.
South Korea’s military also stated that it has increased surveillance and remains on high alert while coordinating closely with allies to monitor the situation.
The latest development has once again raised international concerns over security and stability in the Korean Peninsula.
