The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a new data-driven system to track foreigners who overstay their visas in the country.
According to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, authorities now have access to detailed information covering the past ten years, showing who entered Nigeria, when, and whether they exceeded their visa duration.
The system, established through the Integrated Operations Centre and Network Operations Centre of the Nigeria Immigration Service, will enable the government to take enforcement action against defaulters, strengthening border integrity and national security.
Minister Tunji‑Ojo emphasized that these reforms are part of a broader push for transparent, corruption-free immigration services and enhanced security measures.
Under the new immigration policies, visa overstayers may face fines, entry bans, and other penalties, while digital systems are being introduced to ensure better tracking and compliance.
