Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Partners with Ibeju-lekki Local Government to Empower Youths through YOU-LEAD Programme

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has partnered with the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to bring its flagship YOU-LEAD (Youth Leadership, Emergency Action and Development) Programme directly to the grassroots.

The programme was held today at the NJS Royale Event Centre, bringing together young people from across Ibeju-Lekki for intensive two days training in leadership and personal development.

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, was ably represented by the Supervisor for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Hakeem Oluwole Balogun. In his address on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Balogun described the initiative as “not just another training, but a deliberate and strategic investment in the future of Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos State at large.”

He further stated: “By bringing quality leadership training, emergency response skills, and employability development right to the grassroots, the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy under the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated that leadership development must not be reserved for a few in the city centre but must reach every corner of our state.”

Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government for opening the doors for the programme. She charged the participating youths to take full advantage of the opportunity to transform their lives and communities.

“The Academy is committed to equipping young people with the right skills and mindset to become effective leaders,” she said.

The YOU-LEAD programme featured modules on communication, public speaking, teamwork, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, and other critical employability and emergency response skills.

The partnership underscores the commitment of both the Lagos State Government and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to youth development and inclusive leadership training across all parts of the state.

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) is a Lagos State Government initiative dedicated to grooming exceptional young individuals with the passion and potential to shape Nigeria’s future. Named after the late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the Academy focuses on integrity, innovation, public service, and practical leadership skills.

Also in attendance were Hon. Waliu Balogun, Supervisor for Budget, Hon. Olusola Edalere, Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services, the Head of Department, Agriculture and Social Services, Mr. Balogun Jelili and other key officials of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, as well as representatives from the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy.
