Iran has announced new conditions for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, even as it slightly relaxes earlier restrictions.
In a statement shared through its mission to the United Nations, Iran said vessels must now follow its security guidelines and properly inform authorities before crossing the waterway.
According to the country, only ships that are not seen as threats and are not supporting any military action against Tehran will be allowed safe passage.
The development comes amid rising tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, with the Strait becoming a major hotspot in the ongoing conflict.
Reports say Iran has previously attacked vessels in the area, causing serious disruption and raising fears over global energy supply.
The Strait of Hormuz is a very important route, serving as the only link between the Gulf and the world’s oceans. About 20% of the world’s oil passes through this narrow channel, making it one of the most critical shipping routes globally.
