The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), has commenced the distribution of Ramadan palliatives across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State, aimed at easing the economic hardship faced by citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Owo Local Government Area, the Chief Imam of Owo, Sheikh Yunus Anola, commended the Minister for the thoughtful gesture and offered prayers for his continued success and impactful tenure in office.
The Coordinator of the distribution exercise, Hon. Musibau Ekunnusi, stated that the Minister’s intervention aligns with the tradition of supporting citizens during significant religious periods, particularly in the face of prevailing economic challenges.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Supare Akoko, Alhaji Abdul Rasheed Akindele, noted that Hon. Tunji-Ojo has consistently implemented Ramadan palliative programmes since assuming office in 2023.
He described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the Minister’s commitment to the welfare of the people during the fasting period.
The distribution exercise, which began on Tuesday, March 4, 2026, covered several communities including Akungba Akoko, Supare Akoko, Oba Akoko, Oka Akoko, Epinmi Akoko, Ifira Akoko, Ipe Akoko, as well as Ifon in Ose Local Government Area and Owo Local Government Area.
Hon. Tunji-Ojo urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items provided and called on religious leaders to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in the distribution process.
He also encouraged citizens to continue to pray for Nigeria’s leadership, security, stability, unity, and lasting peace.
The relief items distributed include bags of rice, maize, guinea corn, and cash support to assist families during the Ramadan period.
Meanwhile, Hon. Musibau Ekunnusi assured that the distribution exercise would be carried out diligently, transparently, and credibly to ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the support.
Palliatives Distribution Extends to Southern and Central Ondo
The 2026 Ramadan Palliatives Distribution Committee, comprising Hon. Musibau Ekunnusi, Alhaji Chief Abdul Ganiy Imam Bello (Olodeke of Ekan Ikare), and Alhaji Hussain Muhammed, Chief Imam of Taqweem Deen Mosque, Okeagbe, has further extended its outreach to the Southern Senatorial District and parts of the Central Senatorial District of Ondo State.
Local government areas and communities visited include Ondo East, Ondo West, Ileoluji/Okeigbo, Ifedoro, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Araromi-Obu, Ondo City, Arogbo Ijaw, Ore, and several other communities.
During the distribution, the committee members urged Muslim faithful to reflect on the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), emphasizing compassion, charity, and service to humanity.
The Chief Imam of Okitipupa, Alhaji Kamorudeen Akinyemi, expressed gratitude to Hon. Tunji-Ojo and prayed for Allah’s mercy, guidance, and blessings upon the Minister and the people of Ondo State.
Similarly, Sheikh Ajiboye Lagbaji commended the Minister for the gesture, stressing that Ramadan is a period for extending kindness, sharing with those in need, and strengthening communal bonds.
The Chief Imams of Ore and Araromi-Obu, including Alhaji Abdulahi Akinpelumi, also praised Hon. Tunji-Ojo for his continued support to Muslims during the holy month and prayed for his success and divine guidance.
The distribution exercise is expected to continue in other local government areas in the coming days.
