In a recent interview on TVC News, Adebayo Adedosu, Co-founder of Africa Data Warehouse, offered his perspective on Nigeria’s economic trajectory and the leadership choices facing the country ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly in relation to how different political actors might have handled governance challenges.
He explained that leadership in a complex economy like Nigeria requires not only vision but also the willingness to take tough and sometimes unpopular decisions in order to stabilize key sectors and guide long-term development. According to him, the ability to “weather the storm” is a defining quality of effective governance, especially during periods of economic uncertainty and structural adjustment.
According to Adedosu, “I can imagine an Obi or Atiku presidency and how they would have weathered the storm.” He made the statement while reflecting on the leadership styles of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that their approach to governance would be closely scrutinized in comparison to current policy directions.
Adedosu argued that Nigeria’s current reforms require continuity and resilience, noting that any administration in power must be prepared to implement decisions that may initially be difficult for citizens but are necessary for long-term stability. He emphasized that economic governance often involves balancing immediate public expectations with structural reforms aimed at sustainable growth.
He further stated that evaluating political leaders should include examining how they have responded to crises, managed resources, and handled public policy under pressure. According to him, these factors provide insight into how any leader might perform when confronted with national challenges.
Adedosu also noted that public discourse around potential presidencies should focus less on speculation and more on practical governance capabilities, policy consistency, and the ability to deliver measurable outcomes.
He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to pay close attention to leadership qualities, stressing that the country’s future depends heavily on the competence, experience, and decision-making capacity of those entrusted with national leadership roles.
