Mr. Terfa Ahembe, a father of six and a survivor of the herdsmen attack on the Mbaav and Mbadura communities in Turan, Jato-Aka, located in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, has shared his harrowing experience with the terrorists.
In an interview with New Telegraph, Mr. Ahembe recounted how the attackers killed his son, Nanen, and shot his wife, mother, sister, and other children, who are now receiving medical care at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH).
During the violent assault last week, at least 16 other individuals lost their lives, and seven of his surviving family members are still hospitalized.
Ahembe expressed his sorrow over the devastating attack that has shattered his family, emphasizing that without the assistance of Governor Hyacinth Alia, more of his family members might have perished.
He explained that the assailants struck while his family was sleeping outside due to the heat.
He was not at home when the herders invaded the community, and his mother, wife, and children were shot multiple times in their arms and legs, with his wife and mother suffering fractures in their shoulders and legs.
His sister, whom he had asked to help him on the farm, was also shot in both legs, making it extremely difficult for her to walk.
Terfa mentioned that his sons, who were also injured by gunfire, can no longer attend school due to their severe wounds.
