According to Daily Trust, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, witnesses to the brutal attack on Friday in Wanka village, Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State, have recounted the last moments of their loved ones’ lives, describing the tragedy as horrific and excruciatingly painful.
The tragedy took place during a security operation in Plateau State that targeted banditry and kidnapping. The deceased relatives expressed tremendous grief in separate interviews.
According to reports, armed factions from the expansive Madam forest—which extends across four states—Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba—were involved in the clash.
Two army officers and a colonel were among the eight vigilantes and twenty soldiers killed in the confrontation. Locals in Wanka also reported that the gunfight resulted in the deaths of around 20 bandits.
