Hours before Cpt Hajji was killed, he shared heartfelt message about the passing of his Mother - Family

According to Daily Trust, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, witnesses to the brutal attack on Friday in Wanka village, Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State, have recounted the last moments of their loved ones’ lives, describing the tragedy as horrific and excruciatingly painful.

The tragedy took place during a security operation in Plateau State that targeted banditry and kidnapping. The deceased relatives expressed tremendous grief in separate interviews.

According to reports, armed factions from the expansive Madam forest—which extends across four states—Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba—were involved in the clash.

Two army officers and a colonel were among the eight vigilantes and twenty soldiers killed in the confrontation. Locals in Wanka also reported that the gunfight resulted in the deaths of around 20 bandits.

Aliyu Hajji of Anguar-Kura-Lokoja in Kogi State and Muhammad Sulaiman of Bauchi State were among the verified casualties. Captain Hajji was a patriotic officer who gave his life protecting his country, according to Danladi Abdulsalam, a relative of his.

A member of Hajji’s family, Alhaji Musa Tanimu Nasidi, said: “Hours before the incident, the late officer had shared a heartfelt message on his social media page marking the first anniversary of his mother’s passing.

His profound sense of family, humility, and faith were all on display in that post as he lamented the loss he had caused to his loved ones, his state, and the nation. Few were aware that not long after that, he would also be visited by the same grim reaper.
