In a recent statement via his official X account, former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the impact of ongoing conflicts on oil-rich countries in the Gulf region, stating that these nations have spent vast resources over the years to build modern and prosperous societies.
"The Oil rich gulf countries spent trillions of dollars to build their countries. Everyone wishes to make his country or city like Dubai, Saudi, Qatar, Bahrain have been seen as role models for judicious use of state resources and modern infrastructure. Before our very eyes,they are now pulled backwards by unnecessary wars," he wrote.
In his post, Sani noted that countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain have become examples of how to use national wealth to develop infrastructure and improve living standards and added that many people around the world admire cities such as Dubai and hope to replicate their level of growth and development.
He stressed that these countries were widely seen as models for effective use of state resources and modern planning, according to him, their progress has been visible and widely recognised across the globe.
However, Sani warned that ongoing and unnecessary wars now threaten to reverse these achievements and suggested that conflicts in the region are already pulling these nations backward, despite the years of investment and development they have recorded.
He implied that wars not only destroy lives but also undermine economic gains and infrastructure built over decades, in his view, the consequences of conflict extend beyond the battlefield and can erase years of progress in a short time.
Sani maintained that the situation should serve as a warning about the cost of war, he believes that even the most developed countries are not immune to setbacks when conflicts arise.
