Government Introduces Whistleblower Policy, Offers N5m, N3m Rewards for Information on Kidnappers, Cultists

The Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo has introduced a whistleblower policy offering cash rewards of up to ₦5 million to residents who provide credible information leading to the arrest of kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state.

Under the initiative announced in March 2026, informants who supply actionable intelligence that leads to the arrest of suspected kidnappers will receive a reward of ₦5 million, while those who provide information resulting in the arrest of cultists will be paid ₦3 million.

The policy is part of the state government’s renewed effort to curb growing security challenges, particularly kidnapping and cult-related violence across several communities.

Officials said the whistleblower programme is designed to encourage public participation in security efforts and strengthen intelligence gathering for law enforcement agencies.

The move follows a major security operation conducted in February 2026 in which security agencies arrested 113 suspected kidnappers after receiving intelligence on ransom collection points across the state
.
Authorities assured residents that all information provided under the policy will be treated with strict confidentiality to protect the identity and safety of informants.

The government has therefore urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and criminal movements to the Edo State Police Command and other relevant security agencies as part of efforts to restore safety and order in the state.
