According to a report by Peoples Gazette, the meeting reportedly took place on March 11, 2026, at the Conrad Jabal Omar Hotel in Mecca, during an iftar dinner in the holy month of Ramadan.
Sources cited in the report claimed that the meeting lasted about two hours and focused on political developments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The report alleged that the meeting centred on possible political collaboration aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Atiku, who joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2025 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is believed to be considering another presidential bid.
Sources quoted in the report claimed that Governor Sule expressed support for Atiku’s ambition and pledged to help him secure votes in Nasarawa State.
One source alleged that the governor was also seeking political assurances ahead of his possible bid for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat in 2027.
A source familiar with the alleged meeting said Sule might be positioning himself strategically within Nigeria’s shifting political landscape.

When contacted about the alleged meeting, a media aide to Atiku, Paul Ibe, neither confirmed nor denied that the meeting took place.
“I can only confirm to you what I know. I’m not aware of a meeting of that nature. What I can confirm is that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar travelled for the lesser hajj and returned to the country on Saturday,” Ibe told the aforementioned platform.
Similarly, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sule, Ibrahim Addra, said he was unaware of such a meeting.
However, he confirmed that the governor travelled to Saudi Arabia during the period for the lesser hajj.
“I’m not aware of the meeting, but I know that the governor attended the lesser hajj,” he said.
Checks cited in the report indicated that both Sule and Atiku were in Mecca around the same period between February and March 2026.
During his stay, Sule was also said to have met with several political associates, including Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, who represents Nasarawa South.
