Residents of Maiduguri were thrown into panic on Monday evening after multiple explosions rocked parts of the city, leaving several people feared dead and many others injured.
The blasts reportedly occurred shortly after Muslims broke their Ramadan fast, sending shockwaves across the state capital and causing widespread fear among residents.
Eyewitnesses said one of the explosions occurred near the busy Monday Market, one of the largest commercial hubs in the city, while another blast was reported close to the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Following the explosions, emergency responders and security operatives were quickly deployed to the affected areas. Victims were reportedly rushed to nearby hospitals, with some residents using tricycles and private vehicles to assist in transporting the injured.
Although the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, several people are feared dead while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Security agencies have since launched an investigation into the incident, while authorities are working to secure the affected areas and provide medical assistance to victims.
The attack has raised renewed concerns about security in the region, which has faced years of insurgency linked to extremist groups operating in northeastern Nigeria.
