Reece James has committed his long-term future to Chelsea F.C. after agreeing a new six-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.
The 26-year-old club captain, who came through Chelsea’s youth academy, made his senior debut for the Blues in September 2019 and has since developed into one of the most important players in the squad.
According to reports, the new deal maintains an incentive-based structure, linking a significant portion of his earnings to individual and team performances. James is believed to be Chelsea’s highest-paid player, earning around £250,000 per week.
His previous contract was due to run until 2028, making him one of the club’s key priorities for renewal under the ownership of Todd Boehly and investment group Clearlake Capital.
Despite battling injury setbacks in recent seasons, James has remained crucial to Chelsea whenever fit. He has started 19 of his 26 Premier League appearances this season and has made 225 appearances for the club since breaking into the first team.
The England international underwent hamstring surgery in December 2023 to address a recurring injury problem, and his improved recovery is believed to have boosted confidence during negotiations.
During his time with Chelsea, James has helped the club secure major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2021, the UEFA Super Cup the same year, as well as the 2025 Conference League and the Club World Cup.
If he maintains his fitness and form, the defender is also expected to be a leading candidate to start at right-back for the England national football team at the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
