Bayelsa Woman Survives 12 Years with Scissors Allegedly Left in Her Body After Surgery

A woman from Bayelsa State, Ebi Dakolo, has alleged that doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa left a pair of surgical scissors inside her body for 12 years following a cesarean section in 2013.

The story was narrated by her friend, Hon. Myown Birigeni, who explained that Ebi endured persistent and severe abdominal pain for years. She visited multiple hospitals, but despite numerous scans, treatments, and medications, the cause of her discomfort remained undiagnosed.

The truth was finally revealed in November 2025, when an X-ray showed a metallic object inside her abdomen. Ebi underwent corrective surgery, and the pair of scissors was successfully removed.

Hon. Myown Birigeni described the ordeal as shocking and deeply emotional, noting that Ebi is profoundly grateful to God for surviving such a harrowing experience and for the opportunity to share her story.

As of the latest reports, the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa has not issued any official statement regarding this.
