Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, Professor Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), shared his perspective on recent political developments and patterns in government appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Professor Yusuf spoke on the importance of national balance and inclusiveness in leadership, noting that appointments in public office often attract attention from various stakeholders across the country.
“All your appointments, 70% of your appointments are Yoruba-centric. You did not win Lagos; Yorubas did not bring you to power. You lost Lagos. 63% of your votes are from the North, from the core Muslim North.”
He explained that his comments were intended to encourage reflection on representation and the need for diverse participation in governance.
The former NHIS boss also highlighted the significance of electoral support from different regions, noting that leadership at the national level often involves balancing expectations from across the country.
