Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reached out to Germany’s Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, requesting the supply of used helicopters to strengthen Nigeria’s security operations.
According to official information, the two leaders held a telephone conversation on Wednesday, where President Tinubu appealed for Germany’s assistance in providing helicopters that can support intelligence gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance, particularly in regions affected by rising insecurity linked to the Sahel corridor.
The President explained that the helicopters would help Nigeria improve its capacity to monitor threats, respond faster to security challenges, and protect lives and property, especially in vulnerable areas.
Beyond security, both leaders also discussed strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and Germany in key sectors, including power development, rail transportation, skill acquisition, and creative industries. Germany expressed interest in supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure and economic growth through technical partnerships and possible financing arrangements.
The conversation reflects Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen international partnerships and secure critical support to address national security and development priorities.
