A student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), David Adefesobi Ojuko, has filed a ₦15 million defamation lawsuit against a fellow student, Adeife, following a false allegation made against him on social media.
According to reports, the female student had publicly accused David of rape during an online dispute, a claim that quickly spread across WhatsApp and other social media platforms, damaging his reputation and exposing him to widespread criticism and emotional distress.
However, the accuser later released a public apology, admitting that the allegation was false and made out of anger during a disagreement. Despite the apology, David has proceeded with legal action, insisting that the false accusation caused serious harm to his reputation, personal integrity, and emotional wellbeing.
Through his legal representatives, he is demanding ₦15 million in damages, a formal written apology, and the complete removal of all defamatory statements from public platforms. He has also warned that further legal steps will be taken if his demands are not met.
The incident has sparked widespread debate about the dangers of false accusations and the serious consequences of spreading unverified claims on social media.
