Consequently, the city-state lacks maternity infrastructure, operating without a single hospital or delivery room in its entire territory.
The logistical reality of life in the Holy See means that medical needs, including childbirth, are handled by facilities in the surrounding city of Rome. This arrangement ensures all births technically occur on Italian soil, meaning no one can claim Vatican citizenship through birthright. Instead, citizenship is granted on an administrative basis to those serving the Church and is revoked once their official duties conclude.
