Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Venezuela will use money from a new oil deal to buy only goods made in the United States.
Trump shared the update on his social media platform, Truth Social. He said Venezuela agreed to spend its oil income on American products such as food, medicines, medical equipment, and materials to fix its power and energy systems.
Earlier, Trump explained that under the deal, Venezuela would supply between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States if President Nicolás Maduro is removed from office. He said the oil would be sold at normal market prices and could bring in more than $2 billion.
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright also said the United States would manage Venezuela’s oil sales for a long time. According to him, the oil will be sold by the U.S., and the money will be kept in U.S.-controlled accounts before being returned to Venezuela
Wright added that the move is meant to give the U.S. control and influence to push for major changes in Venezuela.
