In a recent interview on Arise TV, Darlington Orji, Special Advisor on Political Affairs to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, addressed developments in Rivers State’s political landscape, particularly the ongoing impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu. He provided clarification on appointments within the state government and the financial position of the administration.
“Martins Amaewhule approved about 15 special advisors to the governor before the crisis.” The special advisor explained that all appointments of special advisors had been properly sanctioned by the Rivers State House of Assembly and did not require additional screening, countering claims that the governor had breached constitutional procedures.
Orji also commented on the impeachment process, emphasizing that it lacked merit and was losing support among lawmakers. Several members who had initially backed the move were reconsidering their position after realizing that there was no legal basis for the proceedings. He attributed the efforts to remove the governor to personal ambitions rather than the interests of Rivers State citizens.
On the state’s finances, Orji disclosed that Governor Fubara returned to office with ₦600 billion in the coffers, ensuring that government programs could continue without the need for a supplementary budget. He stressed that all allocations to lawmakers and constituency projects were handled transparently, refuting claims of financial mismanagement.
Orji concluded that the administration’s focus remained on development, stability, and good governance, and expressed confidence that the impeachment effort would ultimately be abandoned as legislators and the public became more aware of the facts.
Nwankwo further stated that the governor’s leadership and the transparency of his administration had reassured citizens and helped maintain political stability in Rivers State.
