Rivers Lawmakers Reject N100k Gift, Return Money to Government

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have returned ₦100,000 each that was paid into their personal bank accounts by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

According to a statement signed by Hon. Enemi Aabo George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, the lawmakers received bank alerts on December 30, 2025.

The House explained that the money was sent without their request or approval, following instructions from the governor.

After noticing the payment, the lawmakers said they quickly sent the money back to the Rivers State Government account.

They stressed that all government spending must follow due process and must be approved by the legislature, as stated in the Nigerian Constitution.

The Assembly also accused the governor of making withdrawals from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Account without their approval since he assumed office.

This development is happening amid ongoing political tension in the state, especially with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
