Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated the maiden edition of the rotational Oyo State Council of Obas, with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja appointed to chair the council for a two-year term.
The inauguration was held on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. Meanwhile, according to the report, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade was absent at the inauguration ceremony.
The State House of Assembly has successfully passed the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs (Further Amendments) Bill, 2025, which aims to improve traditional leadership in the state.
The bill maintains the rotational chairmanship system, as opposed to the permanent chairmanship of Alaafin of Oyo, which was the existing order, with the position alternating every two years among the Alaafin of Oyo, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and the Soun of Ogbomoso.
