The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, has announced that Indonesia plans to implement a nationwide single rice price policy starting in 2026, aimed at eliminating price disparities across regions.
Speaking on Monday after a coordination meeting on food affairs, Hasan said the policy is designed to ensure that all Indonesians pay the same price for rice, regardless of location — including communities in eastern Indonesia that often face higher costs due to logistics.
“We don’t want eastern Indonesia to pay higher prices. In 2026, we will strive to apply a single rice price nationwide,” Hasan said.
To make the plan work, the government will provide financial support for distribution, helping to offset transportation and logistical challenges. Central to the policy is a stronger role for the state-owned logistics agency Bulog, which will oversee rice distribution and help maintain national price stability.
The move is expected to improve food affordability, reduce inequality between regions, and strengthen food security across the country.
