Innocent Ndubuisi Okechukwu, the young man from Orlu who has been living quietly in Iowa, USA, has now publicly married another man—inside a church in America.
People are still arguing whether it was Catholic or Anglican/Episcopal, but whichever one it was, the ceremony definitely happened, and it has set tongues wagging everywhere.
To many back home, this is something completely outside Igbo culture, African traditions, and the Christianity that most Igbos were raised with. Some are saying he has fully embraced the American lifestyle, and he is likely already a U.S. citizen living his life on his own terms.
What’s surprising people the most is this question:
“So after all the beautiful women in the U.S. and in Orlu, Ndubuisi did not see any of them—only his fellow man?”
Rumors are flying left, right, and center. Some believe he is doing it because of documents, even though not every state in the U.S. allows gay marriage. Others say he genuinely doesn’t care what anyone in Orlu or Igboland thinks because in the U.S., he is fully protected by law to marry whoever he chooses.
