According to a report by Symfoni TV, on Monday, January 5, 2026, Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, delivered a pointed critique of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that the governing party needs to vacate its position to facilitate national transformation.
During a political assembly, Fayose highlighted the critical need for a leadership transition to foster fresh perspectives and innovative governance.
He opened his remarks by prioritising immediate action over historical context, suggesting that current responsibilities far outweigh past events. Advancing his core argument, he said, “If somebody doesn’t die, you cannot inherit him. This APC must die.”
Fayose reasoned that just as an inheritance is impossible while the owner remains living, Nigeria’s advancement is stalled as long as the incumbent APC administration holds the reins of power.
To illustrate his stance, Fayose shared a childhood anecdote involving a lesson from his brother on how to properly dispatch a snake. He explained that a snake remains a threat unless its head is completely removed, using this imagery to argue that half-hearted political reforms are insufficient. The former governor also challenged political figures to move beyond the confines of the capital city and reconnect with the grassroots. He stated that the path forward is evident and that leaders must mobilise within their local communities to cultivate authentic public support. Fayose emphasised that true political triumph is rooted in abandoning the comforts of Abuja to engage directly with the populace.
While acknowledging the efforts of previous administrations and praising former presidents for their contributions, Fayose remained firm that the future necessitates a revitalised party organisation. He ended his speech with an appeal for supporters to dedicate themselves to strengthening their political platform to secure success in upcoming electoral cycles.
