Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has finally reacted to the recent threats of “political war” issued by his predecessor and Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters at a New Year Thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, Fubara dismissed the threats of the opposition as “mere noise” designed to distract his administration from delivering dividends of democracy.
Without mentioning names, the Governor took a swipe at those who believe they own the state, describing them as “oppressors” whose time has passed.
“Do not listen to the noise in the market,” Fubara charged his supporters. “They are threatening war because they are afraid of the peace we are building. But I tell you today, ignore them. We are too busy working for Rivers people to engage in empty fights.”
Responding to claims of betrayal and broken agreements, Fubara maintained that his only covenant is with God and the people of Rivers State, not with any “godfather.”
“I will not worship man. I will only worship the Living God,” the Governor declared to thunderous applause. “If standing for the interest of the poor masses makes me a betrayer in their eyes, then I am happy to be one.”
The Governor assured the people that 2026 would be a year of “Liberation and Projects,” promising that no amount of intimidation or federal might would stop his government from finishing its tenure strong.
Political observers say this bold response indicates that Fubara is ready for the showdown Wike promised, but he has chosen to fight with “silence and projects” rather than words.
